What This Class Will Cover:
- Normal Newborn Behaviour & The Early Days We’ll start by talking about your newborn’s AMAZING capabilities at birth and what to expect in the early hours, days and weeks as a result of their in-born reflexes and primitive drives. From sleep patterns to feeding cues, you'll gain insights into your baby's behavior and needs during this crucial period of adjustment.
- Infant Feeding Options Feeding is a vital aspect of newborn care, and we'll explore various feeding options, including breastfeeding, formula feeding, and combination feeding. We will look at how much to feed and how often, as well as different ways of feeding your babe (did you know you have plenty more options than just breast or bottle??) This section focuses on learning what is physiologically normal and setting yourself up to meet your feeding goals, but will cover some common challenges that can arise in any feeding journey.
- Safe Sleep & Sleep Arrangement Options We will talk about the biological norms when it comes to infant sleep patterns and behaviours, as well as options that you have for ensuring you maximize sleep and safety for both you and your infant.
- Newborn Care We will cover general newborn care, soothing techniques for common fussy periods, diapering, as well as discuss the most common things we get questions about from newly postpartum families!
- Postpartum Healing & Mental Health supports We are passionate about making space for people to plan for healing and thriving, not just surviving, in their postpartum experience. We'll cover essential self-care tips, physical recovery, and recognizing signs that require medical attention, as well as how to connect with your partner and build yourself a village of support. We also address the difference between baby blues and PMADs and provide resources so you can feel supported and set up to face common emotional changes.
- Babywearing We'll delve into the benefits of babywearing and demonstrate safe and comfortable babywearing positions for bonding and convenience. We will bring in a bunch of different wrap and carrier options on the market for you to try out and feel.
We look forward to guiding you through this transformative experience and celebrating your joys and successes as new parents!
