Welcome to our comprehensive three-hour online Birth Rights and Advocacy Class! This empowering and informative course is designed to equip expectant parents, birth partners, and birth professionals with essential knowledge and skills to navigate the world of childbirth with confidence and advocate for their rights.

- Understanding Birth Rights:
- We begin by exploring the fundamental human rights of pregnant individuals and the rights-based approach to maternity care. Participants will gain insight into the significance of informed consent, bodily autonomy, and the right to respectful and compassionate care during childbirth.
- Informed Decision Making:
- In this section, we delve into the importance of informed decision making during pregnancy, labor, and birth. We discuss how to gather quality information and the art of asking questions to make informed choices that align with individual preferences and values.
- Advocacy for Your Birth Plan:
- Building on the previous module, this section focuses on the development of personalized birth plans. Participants will learn how to communicate effectively with healthcare providers, articulate their preferences clearly, and negotiate their birth plan confidently to foster a positive birth experience.

- Addressing systemic bias and disparities in maternity care is crucial. We provide insight into recognizing and addressing biases that may affect birthing individuals' experiences, and we discuss strategies for advocating for culturally competent and equitable care.

- Understanding the healthcare system can be overwhelming. In this segment, we guide participants through the various aspects of the healthcare system, including policies, provider options, and resources for seeking support.

- Communicating Effectively with Healthcare Providers:
- Clear communication with healthcare providers is key to a positive birthing experience. Participants will learn valuable communication strategies to ensure their needs and preferences are understood and respected.
- Birth Settings and Options:
- We explore various birth settings, from hospital to home births and freebirth. Participants will understand the pros and cons of each option, empowering them to make informed decisions about where they want to give birth.
- Birth Rights Advocacy Toolkit:
- This toolkit provides valuable resources, templates, and contact information for birth rights advocacy organizations, associations and governing colleges. Participants will leave the class with the tools to further their knowledge and engage in birth rights activism within their communities.
